. . . . Even though they hadn't yet created a development plan, the Carpenters knew the approach they would take: First, they would resist selling off or subdividing land. They would preserve the natural beauty of the ranch, with its gentle mesquite-covered hills, its creeks and lakes. They would take the opportunity to create a development of extraordinary and lasting quality. Working with Ben's brother-in-law, Dan Williams, and Wayne Hurd, who later became the first president of Las Colinas Corporation, John and Ben began to put the early pieces in place.
The most pressing issue was preventing undesirable development, and nipping what already existed in the bud. . . .
